Bacon, Eggs and God

Bacon and Eggs and God. Come and Dine

Hello God. Can You Hear Me?

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

The throne of grace! A throne is the seat of a sovereign; a throne of grace is designed to represent a sovereign seated to dispense mercy and pardon. Therefore, we come with boldness and look for pardon. We come not depending on our own merits, but we come where a sufficient sacrifice has been offered for human guilt and where we are assured that God is merciful. We come without hesitancy, or trembling, and ask for all the mercy that we need.

Mercy is what we want first. We need pardon. We are guilty and self-condemned. Our first cry should be for mercy. A person who comes to God not believing they have need of mercy…will fail in obtaining divine favor. Those who have the deepest sense of their need of forgiveness are truly prepared to obtain God’s divine favor.

We need God’s grace. That is, his favor, strength, help, counsel, direction, and support to accomplish the various duties and trials of life. Even as believers, who are pardoned, we still need grace to keep us from sin, to aid us in our duties, and to preserve us in the day of temptation. Such is the assurance given us. And to this bold approach to the throne of grace…all are freely invited.

It should be obvious as to the propriety and necessity of prayer! Every person is a sinner and should pray for pardon. Every person is weak, feeble, dependent, and should pray for grace. And not until a person can prove they have never committed any sin, can that person say they have no need of pardon; and not until they can prove they are solely able to meet the storms and temptations of life, should they feel they have no need to ask for grace. Yet, who can believe they have never sinned; who can believe they do not need God’s grace to face the trials and tribulations of life? Hence, it is ironic that all people do not pray!

Although we often take prayer for granted, we should never forget what God did to open this path to his throne. Because he is holy, a blood sacrifice is required to cover sin before anyone can approach him. Under Old Testament Law, a priest offered animal sacrifices for the cleansing of imperfect people. However, that was only a temporary solution because, while animal sacrifices covered the sin, they could never eliminate it.

At the cross, God’s Son offered himself as the only fully sufficient, atoning sacrifice to pay the penalty for sin once for all time. His blood is adequate for the forgiveness of every past, present, and future sin of those who have by faith received his atonement. Operating under New Testament doctrines, believers are not only forgiven, but also welcomed into God’s family as a result of being born again of his Holy Spirit, who indwells them.

Believers…we are family. Pray without ceasing.
