Bacon, Eggs and God

Bacon and Eggs and God. Come and Dine

Who Will You Follow?

And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

God is immutable. He does not change. The same God that directed Joshua still guides us today.

And ye shall compass the city… Joshua heard God’s instructions. In order for us to obey, we also must hear what the Lord is telling us to do. This means we must be engaged in reading the Scriptures, meditating on them, confessing sin, praying and spending time with God.

Joshua obeyed the instructions; telling the peoplePass on, and compass the city…

Joshua did as instructed, but he could have questioned God’s instructions. How many of us would believe that marching around a fortified city is a logical battle strategy?

And Joshua could have felt it necessary to explain himself to his men in order to gain their approval and agreement. Of course, any military leader would tell us that orders given are meant to be followed.

Most importantly, Joshua could have allowed fear to keep him from obeying.

Joshua did none of these. Upon hearing God’s voice, he followed instructions exactly as they were given and did so without hesitation. God honored his obedience:the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

Are you willing to do what God says, regardless of your feelings or apprehension?

Joshua was confident, because God promised to give the children of Israel the victory.

God’s promises to us are the reason we can trust and obey him.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey
.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey
.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey
.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
.
