Bacon, Eggs and God

Bacon and Eggs and God. Come and Dine

Comfort or Condemnation

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

One would naturally expect a loving father to care for his children when they are hurt, persecuted, or misunderstood. And our heavenly father also is working daily to help us with those same issues, but you might not realize that God also comforts believers even when they have sinned.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

What did Jesus say to the Pharisees who had caught a woman that was committing adultery? They brought her to Jesus, accused her of the sin, and quoted the law which called for stoning, but instead of taking up a rock, Jesus offered forgiveness. He did not defend her actions or completely erase all the consequences of her choices; however, Jesus did offer compassion as well as the opportunity to turn her life around and live in his forgiveness: And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

God understands our human frailty, and even before we do wrong, he knows the toxic consequence that we will reap from our sin. And who among us does not want to be comforted when we are suffering from our own foolishness?

Our loving, heavenly father never abandons us in our hour of great need. The Holy Spirit shows up and walks along with us through the messes we have made. He offers to guide us out of the hole we have dug, soothes our broken heart, and provides reassurance that he is always close by.

Sinning against God makes us feel unworthy of his care, and it should!

Thankfully, God’s forgiveness is based on his great mercy rather than our conduct. Jesus Christ sacrificed his human life to save you from your sins; so it should be obvious that he will love and comfort you, no matter what.
