Bribery

If you can’t get a date through any socially acceptable means — talking to women at church functions, meeting someone at work, or the old-fashioned setup through friends, to name just a few of the many options — apparently you should resort to bribery.

She’ll what? Honestly, I don’t want to know.

I recently saw an article about bribery in relationships and it really struck a nerve with me. Unfortunately, it is commonplace in poor, underdeveloped nations. Western culture men have the mindset that if they throw money at the girl and her family, he has free pass to do whatever he pleases. And you know what? It happens everyday! 

Background. A Westerner arrives in a poor country. Upon arrival he bypasses the traditional cultural norms of first visiting with the girl’s family. Instead he has the girl meet him at the airport. Then the couple spends a week together alone in a resort hotel. Hmmmm. Then after he feels he has control of the situation they return to the girl’s hometown to meet the family. He invites the family to a nice restaurant and gives an extravagant gift to the family.

Look, it is a tragedy that the girl sacrifices her morals in the hopes of landing a gold mine, but the insult comes when the family accepts his gifts. When the family does so they have just put their stamp of approval of the love tryst. In essence, they are saying, “No problem taking our daughter’s virginity, possibly leaving her as an unwed mother and please invite other foreigners to do the same to our other young ladies.”

How can a person even remotely call themselves a Christian and allow their daughter to exposed to such degradation. Am I furious! You better believe I am. I want to choke men like that, but alas, I cannot. But I serve a just and righteous God who is sitting on high; He will judge this. And He will judge all involved!
