Bacon, Eggs and God

It Worked For Me

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.

When growing up, our family attended church. I sat and listened to countless messages coming from the pulpit and to tell you the truth, from where I sat…it just didn’t resonate with me. The preachers spoke of a humble Jesus who walked among the people and preached on a hillside; a Jesus who never wore fancy clothes or started a building program.

But when I looked at the world around me I saw opulent church buildings and cathedrals, business meetings, reserved parking for church staffers, office doors with brass nameplates, offering plates, tote boards with attendance records and weekly offerings, etc, etc, etc. All of those religious trappings cluttered the path the Jesus walked.

The question that I needed to have answered was, “Does following Jesus really work?”

Yes, I knew from reading the Scriptures that as a follower of Jesus Christ there are some things that I would have to give up. Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. Simply stated, Christianity does has a moral and ethical basis to it. So if I was going to have to give up some things…well, I wanted to know that it made sense. That it worked.

Now, 59 years later, I can honestly say, that for me…it absolutely works.

But like a parent trying to impart their wisdom and experience to their children, it will have little impact on me telling you that it worked for me. It is a decision each one of us has to make for ourselves. And that’s how it should be.

I only want to encourage you. Don’t waste this life. Don’t waste another minute.

Read the Scriptures. Meditate on what you read. Pray about what you have read. And if you still have questions, talk to someone whose life is a clear example of the path that Jesus walked.

Why?

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

In other words, there are things in the Scriptures that you will not understand. And after 59 years, there are a few things that I don’t completely comprehend. That is where faith enters in.

I firmly believe that you can find a person who is truly spiritual and can discern the truth of the Scriptures. Those are the persons you need to ask if you have questions.
