Bacon, Eggs and God

Bacon and Eggs and God. Come and Dine

You Are What You……….(Fill in the blank)

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

Bread supports life; therefore, it is representative of those things that contribute to sustaining life. Isaiah tells us in the passage that people are endeavoring to purchase happiness and are disappointed. In the pursuit of perceived happiness by way of ambition, vanity or vice, people will become disappointed, just as those who spend their money and procure nothing that would sustain their lives.

Many labor for that which does not produce satisfaction. What a striking description of the condition of our world! The heavenly mind will not be satisfied with wealth, pleasure or honor. It never has been. Show me the person who is truly satisfied with their wealth, and who says it is enough. Where is there one who is totally satisfied with pleasure, vanity and entertainment? There is a void in the heart which these things do not and cannot fill.

God gave us a consciousness that the soul was made for higher and nobler purposes; hence, nothing but God can meet its boundless desires. Where is the man who has ever been satisfied with ambition? Look throughout history and consider the kings who have abdicated the throne, because there was nothing in royalty to satisfy the soul. Muse on the rich and famous who have had adulterous relationships, multiple marriages or who have committed suicide, because they could not find happiness in their lives.

We need to eat good things. We need to view good things. We need to think good things.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

If you eat junk, and watch junk, day after day…it will produce negative results.

Guilty! I am someone who really needs to watch what he eats, but when those pangs of hunger strike it’s so tempting to grab a bag of chips full of salt and fat, or chocolate, or something else that’s no good for me.

It’s the same with what we watch on TV or social media.

We get bored, scan the channels with the remote or surf the internet and stop at whatever catches our eyes. But there’s so much junk out there. If we feed our minds, our hearts and our souls with that stuff day after day…there are consequences.

I know we live in an “anything goes” “if it feels good just do it” kind of world and it’s not a very popular thing for me to say, but it’s true.

When we feed ourselves with junk…there will be consequences.
