Bacon, Eggs and God

Bacon and Eggs and God. Come and Dine

Trade

And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.

Imagine that…Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of soup!

How about you? Are you trading something of value for something of lesser worth? In other words, what is your “bowl of soup”?

Are chasing after wealth or a career at the expense of family? Does your busy schedule keep you from spending time with God each day?

Some people become involved in extramarital affairs, trading the well-being of their family for the momentary satisfaction of sexual desires. Still others sacrifice their health by consuming harmful or addictive substances or even by overindulging in food. The list of ways we make ill-considered, impractical or ill-advised choices go on without end.

Worse yet, foolish decisions we make today can rob us of the blessings God wants to give us. When you yield to temptation, you are actually sacrificing your future for momentary pleasure. We cannot afford to live thoughtlessly, basing our decisions on immediate desires or feelings.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Therefore, it is imperative that we carefully consider what type of seed we are planting. The harvest will come, at which point we will reap what we have sown…and more than we have sown.

Are you contemplating something that could have serious long-term consequences? Are you about to succumb to a fleshly desire?

Ask God for increased discernment so you can evaluate your choices by looking ahead to see what negative consequences could follow your proposed course of action. Do not allow “a bowl of soup” to sway you into making a decision that hinders God’s special plans for you.
