Bacon, Eggs and God

Bacon and Eggs and God. Come and Dine

Slumber

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Believers are conveyed to heaven without dying a physical death. They are taken out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. Believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ are “children of the day;” where the sun shines the brightest, when joys are more abundant and opportunities multiply. But never forget that with greater privilege, comes greater responsibility.

For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

A Christian’s responsibility is to maintain constant vigilance. We are not to be like the drunkard submerged in senseless slumber; immersed in the sleep of sin and unconcern, neglecting our duty and never thinking of judgment. We are to watch, and, to do so effectually, we must be sober. We are day people, not night people; therefore, our work and our conduct are to be seen in the eye of day; not hidden in the veil of night.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Ours is an attitude of extreme courage. Not only do Christians have to fight the enemy, but they must also keep watch against him. We are soldiers on the front line; yet, we must always be on sentry duty as well.

The graces of faith, hope and love create the most complete armor of the soul. The breastplate and helmet protect the two most vital parts – the head and the heart. Let us keep the head from error and the heart from sin. The best protection for both is found in faith, hope and love. These virtues inspire the most resolute bravery. The Christian life is not one of luxurious ease.

Human nature tends toward laziness; a little more sleep…a little slumber. The best time to defeat a bad habit is at its onset; when it is little. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will to be to overcome the habit.

Fill your life with reasons to awaken from slumber. Look forward to each day with new hope. Arise and rejoice that God has given you another day of life. Do not be lazy. Always be a good steward of time given to you.
