Even The Church Cannot Stop The Message Of Jesus Christ
I am a Christian; first, foremost and always. My roots are found in Baptist upbringing, but late in life I had the time to think about the foolishness of denominations. For so any years I was a part of the herd mentality. You know, when the lead cow starts down the well-worn path to the barn, then all the other cows fall in behind. The truth be known that most of us inherit our denominational affiliations; I am no different.
My father was in the Air Force and another airman invited him to church. It was a Southern Baptist Church. My father heard the preaching, realized he was a sinner, repented of those sins and accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A short time later he followed the Lord in Baptism.
My mother tried her best to be a good Baptist wife, but it was not until very late in life that she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She had to divorce my father and the church before she could discover the truths written in the Bible. And the first thing she learned is there are no denominations spoken within the pages of scripture. The Bible does tell us about the origin of Christians. And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. They were not called Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, or by any other denomination. Plain and simple, they were Christians.
I firmly believe in Baptist doctrine. Of course, now we would have to determine which Baptist doctrine, or doctrines, because there are more than 65 different Baptist affiliations. This where it starts to become blurred and denominational differences within the genre of Baptist believers has spawned turf wars. Oh yes, even Bible believing, Bible teaching, Bible preaching Baptists argue and fight over who has the correct doctrine. This continual in-fighting among the brethren only serves to prove that folks have made their doctrinal beliefs into a sacred cow and folks will protect their golden calf at the expense of lost souls dying and going to hell.
Why is it so confusing? It is bewildering because Christians have made it so. We have Doctrines, Distinctive, Declarations of Faith, Convictions and Traditions. Is it a wonder that people have become confused as to what is Biblical and what is man made? The truths of the Bible are simple, we have made it complex. What started out as a group of people getting together to worship and learn more about the Bible has morphed into religious-industrial complex that mimics the corporate mindset.
